FSP West Release Meaning
FDC lists FSP West Unit as Florida State Prison's satellite. It is not a county jail, and its state-prison discharges do not appear in Bradford SmartWEB. The same DC number follows a prisoner across FDC locations. A West Unit location can disappear because the person moved to the main institution or another prison. That is an internal transfer unless release history shows a state custody exit.
Look for Release Date and Date Out-Custody on the person's FDC detail. A past date-out entry supports a completed incarceration period. A future Current Release Date is a forecast and can change. If the person remains in Current Population at another location, custody continued. If confinement ended with parole, conditional release, probation, or another state term, Supervised Population may provide the next status and supervising office.
Search FSP West Releases
Open FDC's Inmate Release Information Search. Use the six-character DC number when possible because it is more precise than a name. The form also accepts first and last name, uses begins-with matching, permits alias searching, and offers photograph filters. Open the full detail rather than relying on the results list.

- Find Date In-Custody and Date Out-Custody in incarceration history.

One search cannot answer every stage. Inmate Release includes past releases and scheduled events. Current Population asks whether FDC still reports imprisonment and where. Supervised Population asks whether a person outside prison remains under parole, conditional release, probation, or another state supervision type. The Bradford County jail search answers none of those state-prison questions because West Unit is an FDC satellite, not a sheriff-operated jail.
The release database is updated nightly. Current Population is fully refreshed weekly, with release dates and location changes updated nightly. Short processing gaps are possible. FDC warns that its information may not reflect the true current location, status, or release date at every moment. A conflict with an order or other official record belongs with the FDC office responsible for that field.

Offense labels can be abbreviated. Use the court judgment for the exact conviction and sentence. Use FDC for the custody history. These sources answer related but different questions. A court order can set the legal basis for release, yet the state record documents when the incarceration period actually ended.
FSP West Release Dates
FDC's public scheduled-release detail may label a forecast Current Release Date. Florida Statutes use the term tentative release date for the date calculated through gain-time. The distinction matters at FSP West Unit because a future date can move. Gain-time awards or restoration may make it earlier, while forfeiture can make it later. Jail credit, sentence changes, mandatory minimums, exclusions, and agency review may also affect the calculation.
Under Florida Statutes section 944.275, the tentative date cannot exceed maximum sentence expiration. For qualifying modern sentences, the 85-percent floor limits how early incentive gain-time can produce release. It does not promise release at exactly 85 percent. A future FSP West date should therefore be called scheduled or tentative. After the event, look for the historical Release Date and Date Out-Custody before describing it as completed.

For a formal copy, use the FDC public-record page or GovQA. Ask for an existing release record, incarceration history, or location history. FDC says it does not have to create a record or research an undefined history for a requester, so precise dates and identifiers reduce ambiguity and possible cost.
Public access remains subject to exemptions and redaction. A useful request identifies the committed name, DC number, approximate West Unit dates, and the exact event or field needed. If the question is whether a move from West Unit was a transfer, ask for location or incarceration history. If the question is whether FDC custody ended, ask for the release event and date out of custody.

FSP West Transfer Context
Bradford County's Raiford and Lawtey area contains several state facilities near the Union County line. Similar place names can make old records look inconsistent. Florida State Prison, West Unit, Lawtey CI, the New River legacy site, and Union CI are distinct places, but adult state records use the same FDC search network. The person's DC detail matters more than a search snippet naming only “Raiford.”
New River's temporary closure reassigned people rather than releasing them. FDC also says the former New River Work Camp is now Union Work Camp under Union CI. That local event shows why facility disappearance is weak evidence. A move between the West Unit, main prison, or another FDC institution changes location without ending state custody.
Apply the same rule to every FSP West search. Confirm Date Out-Custody and check Current Population before describing a location change as release. A VINE alert, court order, and FDC detail can mark different stages. Florida VINE may report release, transfer, work release, return to custody, movement to another jurisdiction, or death in custody. The alert records a status supplied by a participating system. It may not provide a lasting history, the exact reason for a move, or the receiving location. A transfer alert tied to FSP West should lead back to Current Population and FDC location history.
The court record supplies the sentence or order but may not show when FDC completed the physical move. Release Information and Date Out-Custody answer that custody question. Supervised Population supplies the next state status when confinement ended under parole, conditional release, probation, or another FDC term. If no online result resolves the conflict, request the existing FDC record or contact the unit responsible for that database.
The sequence matters: identify the DC record, read the incarceration period, check current custody, confirm any completed release, and then check supervision. This keeps a West Unit location change from being mistaken for the end of state custody.
FSP West Official Status
The official FSP West Unit profile is the correct source for its current listing. FDC's main prison page identifies West Unit as a satellite, but the research did not verify a clearer independent operational label. Avoid declaring the unit open or closed beyond FDC's wording.
Institution profiles are not released-person lists. They establish who operates the unit and how it relates to Florida State Prison. The satellite label also does not show whether a named person remained there, moved to the main prison, transferred elsewhere, or left FDC custody.
