Florida State Prison Release Meaning
Florida State Prison is an adult men's state institution operated by the Florida Department of Corrections in Bradford County. It is one location inside a statewide network. Leaving that location does not establish release. A person may move to FSP West Unit, another FDC prison, a hospital unit, or another lawful placement while remaining in state custody. The county sheriff has no control over that state-prison record.
A true community discharge is documented through FDC's Inmate Release Information Search and the person's detail. A past Release Date supported by Incarceration History and Date Out-Custody is stronger evidence than absence from a current institution list. If supervision follows confinement, the person may then appear in Supervised Population. Supervision means physical prison custody ended while state rules still apply. A completed term without supervision may appear only in release history.
Search Florida State Prison Releases
Begin at the FDC Offender Search menu. Choose Inmate Release Information for a person already released or scheduled for release. The search accepts last name, first name, and a six-character DC number. It also offers alias searching and photograph controls. Name searches use begins-with matching, so try a shorter confirmed spelling when a full name does not return the expected record.
- Search Inmate Release Information by DC number when known.
- Open the detail and read Release Date plus Incarceration History.
- Check Date Out-Custody rather than relying on a missing location.
- Search Current Population if transfer or continued custody is possible.
- Search Supervised Population when parole, conditional release, or probation may follow.
These searches answer separate questions. Current Population identifies a person whom FDC still records in prison. Inmate Release covers people who were released or are scheduled for release. Supervised Population concerns people outside prison under FDC field supervision. The Absconder/Fugitive database is narrower. It concerns a supervised person whom FDC says stopped making himself or herself available for supervision. A missing record in one database should lead to the next relevant search, not to an unsupported release conclusion.
FDC says release information is updated nightly. Current Population receives a full weekly refresh, while locations and release dates update nightly. Its data can change quickly and may not show the true current location, status, or release date at every moment. Use the Bureau of Admission and Release when a detail conflicts with known official action.
Florida Prison Release Fields
The detail record supplies more context than a result list. Identity fields help distinguish similar names, while sentence and incarceration entries identify which period of custody ended. Offense descriptions can be shortened, so a court judgment remains the better source for the precise conviction. Match more than a photograph, especially when names are common or an alias search was used.
| FDC field | Use in release verification |
|---|---|
| DC number and committed name | Match the statewide correctional identity |
| Release Date | Shows the recorded or scheduled state release date |
| Date In-Custody | Marks entry for an incarceration-history period |
| Date Out-Custody | Corroborates the end of that state custody period |
| Custody classification and location | Describe custody, but a changed location alone is not discharge |
| Sentence history | Places the release entry in the correct state sentence |
The public forecast may be labeled Current Release Date, while Florida law calls the computed date tentative. Under Florida Statutes section 944.275, gain-time awards or restorations can move a tentative date earlier, and forfeiture can move it later. The date cannot run beyond maximum sentence expiration. Jail credit, sentence corrections, mandatory minimums, offense exclusions, and agency review can also affect the calculation. A future date is not proof that a release occurred. Historical Date Out-Custody is the key corroborating field after the event.
Florida's 85-percent rule is not a stand-alone release calculator. For covered sentences, the statute limits how early incentive gain-time can produce release, but eligibility and actual awards still matter. The reliable public method is to read the date FDC currently publishes, note whether it is future or past, and then confirm the completed event in release and incarceration history.
Florida State Prison Contacts
The institution can address facility operations, but FDC's central offices maintain the statewide release and population records. Direct a date-out-of-custody or release-event question to Admission and Release. Direct a current location or population-record issue to Classification and Central Records. A narrow request with a DC number, name, and the disputed field is easier to process than an open-ended request.

Formal public-record requests can go through FDC's public-record page or GovQA portal. FDC notes that it need not create a new record, conduct research, answer questions, or convert data into a format it does not keep. Ask for an existing offender, release, or incarceration-history record and identify the requested dates.
Florida Prison Supervision After Release
After a community discharge, use Supervised Population when the sentence or release plan may include parole, conditional release, probation, or another FDC-supervised status. The database is fully refreshed weekly, while termination dates and location changes update nightly. It can show the supervising office and a termination date. A discharge from all supervision is different from release from the prison gate.
FDC Probation and Parole Field Services handles supervision data at 850-717-3444 and co-supervision@fdc.myflorida.com. Bradford County is in Circuit 08, and the Starke office is at 1250 East Andrews Street, Suite N2. An absconder entry means the agency reports the person missing from supervision, not back in prison or newly released. Verify supervision through the appropriate database rather than inferring it from the prison record.
- Discharge
- The recorded end of a prison custody or supervision term, depending on context.
- Conditional release
- Release from physical custody with conditions administered by the state.
- Transfer
- Movement between custodial placements without community release.
Bradford Prison Transfer Geography
Florida State Prison sits in an unusually dense correctional area. FSP West is its listed satellite. Lawtey CI and the temporarily closed New River site are nearby, while Union CI lies across the county line. Old records may use Raiford as a place name without making the legal custodian clear. Search the person's DC record first and treat the facility name as one point in an incarceration history. A Bradford County arrest, a Raiford address, and a Florida State Prison placement are not interchangeable facts.
New River's 2021 closure demonstrates the risk. Contemporary reporting described prisoners and staff being reassigned rather than people receiving early release. The former New River Work Camp is now listed as Union Work Camp under Union Correctional Institution. Union CI is in Union County, even though the shared Raiford geography can make that boundary easy to miss. That same transfer distinction applies to an ordinary move from Florida State Prison.
FDC's release and current-population databases, not a location disappearance, decide whether state custody continued. If Current Population shows a new institution, the person remained confined. If release history shows Date Out-Custody and Supervised Population returns a match, prison custody ended but supervision continued. If release history is complete and no supervision record applies, the state record may show a completed term. The FSP West Unit release page addresses the satellite relationship in detail.
Confirm Florida Prison Release Conflicts
A court judgment, an FDC record, and a VINE notice can describe related events without showing the same fact. The judgment states the sentence and legal authority. FDC maintains the statewide prison location, incarceration history, release event, and supervision data. VINE can report a release, transfer, escape, work release, return to custody, movement to another jurisdiction, or death in custody. It is a status-and-alert channel rather than a durable release archive.
When the sources appear to conflict, first match the DC number and the incarceration period. Then decide whether the event was a transfer, a scheduled date, a completed release, or the start of supervision. A VINE transfer notice should be checked in Current Population. A past FDC release date should be checked against Date Out-Custody. A community release with a possible state term should be checked in Supervised Population. The Bradford County released inmate search explains when a county, state, federal, or court source controls.
Direct the final question to the office that owns the field. Admission and Release handles release information. Central Records handles population and location data. Field Services handles supervision. This division prevents the Florida State Prison phone line or Bradford County Jail from being treated as the keeper of every statewide record.
Florida State Prison Source View
The official Florida State Prison profile is the source for the institution's operator, address, county, population type, and satellite listing.

The profile confirms the facility identity, but it is not an individual release roster. Use the offender databases for a named person's custody and discharge history.
